How Does the Spray Painting Furniture Process Work?

Step 1

Sanding

One of the first things we do is sand your door – this stage is especially important as we want a finish that’s going to last. By using a fine sandpaper on your doors, we create a textured surface for the paint to stick to, meaning the job will last much longer.

Step 2

Cleaning

After sanding, we clean the doors. We use a degreaser to remove the debris and any dirt or grime buildup from the sanding process. Before moving on we brush the doors down and wipe them clean before moving on to the next stage.

Step 3

Protecting

Masking tape is a door spray painter’s best friend and we use it when we need to protect surfaces that aren’t going to be painted. Once we mask the elements that can’t be removed (e.g. door handles or glass panels) the door is ready for painting.

Step 4

Spraying

Next up is the sprayer’s favourite part: the spraying itself. This is where the appearance of your doors really changes, and there’s nothing better than spray painting an old door and seeing the new colours and the new style come to life.

Types of Internal Doors We Spray Paint In Scotland

Wooden Doors

Wooden doors are the most traditional and still widely popular type of internal door. Available in various wood types like oak, pine or beech, they offer durability, aesthetic appeal, but can be quite costly. This is where renovating your existing doors can be a great alternative to buying brand new ones.

Laminated Doors

Primarily made from MDF and covered with a wood-like laminate, laminated doors are more affordable and easier to maintain than wooden doors, though they may lack their long-term durability. Our 2-pack polyurethane paint offers great protection against wear and tear and can be used to prolong their life and refresh their appearance.

Glass Doors

Available in clear or frosted finishes, glass doors are perfect for modern interiors, adding a sense of airiness and space. They can also feature wooden elements with glass panels. The wooden elements can be restored and sprayed, but we are also able to spray the glass panels if you are looking for a unique change.

Metal Doors

While more commonly used as exterior doors, metal doors can also be found internally. They offer exceptional durability, but with time they will tire and show signs of wear. Our extensive range of coats can restore their original shiny look or transform them completely into a different material look.

PVC Doors

Made from plastic, PVC doors are moisture resistant and easy to clean, making them suitable for bathrooms and kitchens. We offer a special range of paints that enhance those qualities and increase the durability of the door, protecting against moisture and prolonging the life of the door.

FAQ

What is spray painting for internal doors?

Spray painting is a technique that uses a spray gun to apply paint evenly across the surface of internal doors. This method ensures a smooth, uniform finish free from brush marks, enhancing the overall appearance of your doors.

The duration depends on the number of doors and their condition. Typically, each door requires about 20 to 30 minutes of spraying. However, preparation and drying times will extend the overall process.

Absolutely. Spray painting provides a more even coat and a superior finish compared to traditional brush or roller methods. It is especially effective for detailed areas, ensuring nooks and crannies are perfectly covered.

We use high-quality PU (polyurethane) 2-pack paints, which are renowned for their durability, scratch resistance, and resilience, ensuring a long-lasting finish suitable for interior use.

To keep your spray-painted doors looking their best, regularly dust them and clean with a damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals to preserve the integrity of the paint.

Costs can vary depending on the number of doors, the type of paint used, and the condition of the doors. We provide a detailed quote after an initial assessment to ensure transparency and accuracy in pricing.
