100 Princes Street Hotel – Commercial Door & Woodwork Spray Painting

Commercial Door & Woodwork Spray Painting at 100 Princes Street Hotel

One of our most distinctive commercial spray painting projects in Edinburgh was completed at the 100 Princes Street Hotel. As part of the interior fit-out, we were commissioned to finish more than 150 bespoke doors, together with extensive internal woodwork throughout the hotel.

The doors were manufactured to match the original interior design and required a highly detailed decorative finish. Each element was prepared and finished using a carefully specified multi-coat system, combining specialist paints and decorative techniques to achieve the required luxury appearance.

The project demanded a consistently high standard of workmanship across a large number of individual pieces, with every door and section of woodwork finished to complement the character and design of the hotel.

Specialist Spray Painting Process for Hotel Doors and Woodwork

Developing the correct finish required several weeks of testing and refinement. Working alongside the specialist Italian craftsmen involved in the hotel interiors, we created sample finishes and developed a detailed process to reproduce the required aged appearance with decorative metallic mouldings.

The finishing system involved multiple stages. The doors were first prepared and primed before a bespoke black-brown base colour, selected by the client, was applied. The decorative mouldings were then carefully masked and sprayed with a metallic silver finish.

Each surface was subsequently hand-aged using specialist abrasives and Scotch pads to create an authentic, naturally worn appearance. A liquid patina was then applied to enrich the brown tones and introduce a subtle warm metallic effect to the mouldings. Finally, the doors and woodwork were protected with a sprayed specialist acrylic lacquer at approximately 45% sheen, producing a durable finish while retaining the character of the decorative effect.

On-Site Repairs and Finishing at 100 Princes Street Hotel

As the wider fit-out progressed, some of the completed doors and decorative finishes sustained damage on site and required additional remedial work. We were asked to return and carefully restore the affected surfaces while maintaining consistency with the original bespoke finish.

Working within a live construction environment and to tight programme deadlines, our team repaired and refinished the damaged areas over several weeks. Particular care was taken to reproduce the original colours, aged effects and decorative details so that the repaired sections blended seamlessly with the surrounding finishes.

The completed hotel now showcases a highly distinctive interior, and we are proud to have contributed specialist spray painting, decorative finishing and restoration work to this landmark Edinburgh project.
